Show Us Your Life: Your Daily Routine

I'm linking up with Kelly's Korner Blog for Show Us Your Life Friday.....
Here is a typical day for me...
5:00: Alarm goes off. I read the Word, eat, work on plans for the school day. I used to go to work way early and get things done. People at this school are more social (that is not bad), but I've found I don't get as much done in the mornings when I am at work.
8:00: At work, getting ready for the day. I will often times have a morning meeting.
8:50-9:20: Community meeting (school-wide) in our gym.
9:20-9:40: Math small group
9:40-10:00: First Guided Reading Group
10:00-10:40: Planning
10:40-11:20: Shared Reading
11:20-11:40: Lunch with my students in our classroom. I love eating lunch with them.
11:40-11:55: Read Aloud
11:55-12:15: Guided Reading Group Two (Students are reading from their personal libraries)
12:15-12:30: Reading Conferencing
12:30-1:00: Mini-Writer's Workshop
1:00-2:00: Math
2:00-3:00: Social Studies
3:00-3:30: Recess
3:30-3:45: In Class closing meeting, getting ready for dismissal
3:45: Dismissal
After school I usually have a meeting, GED class, or cooking class. I rarely get home before five.
When I get home, it's all about hanging out with HH. We watch TV shows or a movie, and talk about the day.
10:00-11:30: Floating bedtime for me.

Friday Night FUN!

HH was ready to kick the evening off in high gear with such a huge candy bar. He lovingly paused so I could capture it with the camera. We had stopped to get a singing congratulations card and a big Hershey bar for one of my students. (He got accepted into one of THE best middle schools in our state, and it is nationally ranked as well.)

The girls out doing there halftime show. On Friday, we will be watching their cheerleading competition.

An upclose shot HH took....

Showing the LOVE of the Gigi's Cupcakes (a Nashville based bakery, new to our city)....
HH took me there after having my mole removed the other day.

More than just cupcakes.....works of ART!

These cupcakes are certainly knife and fork jobs. I can only eat about half the icing on these cupcakes, but they are pretty awesome.

Building a Strong Marriage....

This is an excerpt from an article by Don Delafield....

"A lot of the projects that we take on in life can be difficult, complicated, absorbing and impossible without a lot of help. It is my strong conviction that marriage is such project of divine proportions, and then some.

I once heard a saying that related to this idea: "If something is worth doing right, it is worth doing wrong!" This means hat many things in life require us to tolerate the stress of a learning curve. We don't start out knowing how to do something difficult correctly. We have to be willing to fail for a while in our efforts to get it right. Learning to walk requires that we first learn how to fall.

Couples don't seem to get this fundamental principle - I know I didn't really get it for years. I am still learning to face my flaws. In fact, I've even come to the conclusion that there may be a few more flaws that I have yet to discover. (Sarcasm intended here!)

No one really gets married when they are ready for marriage - it is within the process of being married that we discover what we need and what we don't have. We have to learn to run to God often, in every way we can - where He can show us that we can do it, if He helps."

Check and Check....

I went to my PCP to get a referral for a DexaScan. I had my bone density scan done as a baseline in 2008, and I am supposed to have one done every two years. I can't believe it is already time to have another one done. My PCP said she could have it done TODAY in the office. She read my report, and everything is normal at this time. I am having labs drawn for Vitamins A, D, and Ferretin (Iron) on the 23rd. I am in the process of putting together a binder in chronological order with all my lab reports, etc. I want to have this for informational purposes in case I ever reach a point where a doctor needs to really examine my medical information over a long period of time.

My friend from middle/high school came to observe in my classroom today. I was as nervous as all get out. I know she is sweet as pie, but still she knows my family, etc. She wanted to see how different it was from Montessori (through our public schools), to traditional. She wants to transfer to my school. The visit went really well.

Tribute to My Daddy...

I watched My Sister's Keeper last night. That was a very powerful and emotional movie. HH was at the nursing home, and I talked to him about it all the way home. At one point, the terminally ill girl gets dressed up for prom. She looks radiant. While everyone is fussing about how beautiful she looks, she goes up to her dad. She asks her dad how she looks. In a room of crowded people, his opinion really mattered. She wanted to hear her dad say she was pretty. This was an especially emotional moment for me, because it triggered thoughts I've had with my own dad.

Pretty.....

While I don't have the most healthy self-concept, I can say with 100% certainty that it is not because of my father. My dad's nickname for me was always "pretty." Even to this day, he often refers to me that way. I didn't turn a lot of heads growing up, but without knowing it, my dad worked on my self-image through this one word. There are many more emotions I am feeling right now, but I just can't get them to form words here. I am thankful for my dad always lifting me up in that regard.

Doctor's Office Report

First Doctor: BAD! I will not be going back to him. I do not feel that he took my concerns seriously. I cannot afford to allow someone like this to manage my bloodwork.

Second Doctor: Dermatologist was awesome. I was not expecting having to get down to my bra and underwear, but I am glad that I did. He ended up removing a mole on my thigh that I thought was nothing. He explained why it needed to be removed. Under the mole on my face, I have a cyst. There is no need to have it removed, but it can get bigger. I decided to go ahead and get it removed over spring break.

Almost Time...

I was teetering with the idea of going to the 12:05 showing Friday morning, but I know I would be a train wreck on Friday for work. I am settling for seeing it in IMAX 3-D as soon as school is out on Friday!

Is It Friday Yet?

This week has been long because we have had Parent-Teacher Conferences both nights right after school is over. I'm not a clock counter by any means, and my day usually speeds by, BUT today I looked up at the clock, realized I had to be at work for another SEVEN hours, and it didn't do wonders for my disposition. HH brought me dinner from Moe's both nights.

I got my new student teacher on Monday. So far, things are going very well. She is very enthusiastic and wants to dive right in.

Tomorrow I am going to the endocrinologist tomorrow for some bloodwork, then to the dermatologist. I have had a mole on my jawline for as long as I can remember, but there is a dime sized mass below the mole. It has just recently surfaced. I am having HH come with me to that appointment, as I am a bit freaked about having something frozen off my face. I didn't plan the day to be after two really long conference days, but I can say that I'm happy it ended up working out that way.

Right now, I am excited about the fact that I set my alarm for 8:00 tomorrow. OH YEAH!

Can't Make This Up....

A boy in my class had a shirt on today that said....

Recycling.....
It's a good thing....
Not as good as foreplay....
but a good thing.

I AM NOT KIDDING. (Man was I naive to think that "I brought sexy back," was a vulgar shirt last year.)
