At Lunch Yesterday...

One of my girls is talking about Halloween, and how she dressed up as a hoochie momma last year. Then, she pauses and asks me if I know what that is. I said no, because I couldn't pass up the opportunity to hear her explain to me what it was.

Always an Upside

My first cooking class is tomorrow night!!!

Screeching Halt

No skydiving Saturday.....postponed most likely until spring. We need to cut back on expenditures, and this was a no brainer. :(

Taking Care of Business....

If only every day was this productive. Why so productive? It was parent-teacher conference day. I had ten scheduled conferences and six parents who actually showed up. I was able to get so much work done.

My Lab results came back in.....

Vitamin D is slightly low
Vitamin A is substantially low
I have to start getting B-12 shots
Iron is holding steady, but at the low end of normal.

I love my regular PCP and how detailed she is.

My flannel jeans came in the mail yesterday, and my shoes came today!

We had bean burritos for dinner, and they were yummy.

Sorry for the short choppy sentences, that is the best I got tonight.

My New Apron

I asked Ben to pick out an apron that he thought captured my essence, and behold this was his choice. (Not too shabby if I don't say so myself!) This beauty should be arriving at the house in about two weeks. :) I have a very special apron that my gran gave me, that I really want to preserve, so I needed a day to day apron.
Last night I tell Ben that he is on his own for dinner on Wednesday night. He says fine, then asks why, to which I reply, "I'll be in cooking class." He said he finds it ironic that he'll be eating on his own, so that I can attend cooking class. He said he could just see it now.....here he is eating alone at Taco Bell, and sees several other men doing the same. They start talking only to realize that all their wives are at cooking class together!

Things I Will Never Own Again: Part I

1. Cable Sweater

2. Elastic Waist Pants

Ok, the cable knit sweater brings back nightmares....Seriously, does the fashion industry think this is all heavy people like to wear. Of course, I always got two or three more to add to my collection each Christmas.

Elastic Pants....I have to have a zipper. I need the boundary that it offers, even if it drives me crazy. I do have some lounge around the house pants that are elastic waist, but I don't wear those out. Now all bets are OFF when I become pregnant. I figure if I keep myself clothed period while I am pregnant that I am paying my debt to society.

This series will be continued as I think of other things I will no longer wear/own.

Cinnabon Rolls: My Philosophy

I love Cinnabon Rolls. LOVE. THEM. I could have them every day of the week for a month and still not grow tired of them. Because of this, I had to create a philosophy of when I could go about eating them. We have a Cinnabon store in the local mall, but I never go there. My philosophy is that Cinnabon Rolls are for trips only. I have to leave the state of Kentucky in order to purchase one (ok, I don't let going to Indiana count either, since I am only twelve miles from there). Whenever I am on a trip, I indulge in a warm, ultra amazing Cinnabon Roll, and don't feel guilty about it in the least. It is acceptable to eat these once in a while, but not frequently. Today, I will enjoy a Cinnabon Roll in the Charlotte Airport, and won't have another one until we take our next trip out of state.
Now if only I could develop a similar philosophy with the Cheesecake Factory.....

Other Plans

I planned on having a nice relaxing weekend here in NC, but my body had other plans. I coughed all night and felt awful Friday night. Saturday morning I get up at 8:00, go back to bed at 9:00, and slept until 3:30! My temperature got up to 101.5. I finally got up, took a shower, laid on the sofa and watched tv for a bit, and had a bowl of soup. I went back to bed at 8:00, and slept until 7:00 this morning! Holy Mackerel!

Things I am Looking Forward To in October...

I've Tried....

cooking

Aloha Chili, and Shrimp and Black Bean Chili.....

now I'm going to try making regular chili chili!!!

I'll also be making Four Cheese Macaroni Casserole (with bacon added of course).

These things will be the highlight of my Saturday, as I will be doing report cards (both electronically and by hand: don't even get me started), parent reports, and student data profiles....ALL DAY LONG (other than when I am cooking).

Celebrating Mallory's 2nd Birthday....

Plastic food....can life get any better at 2?

After our dinner with my brother and his family, HH surprised me with a trip to the Cheesecake Factory. He remembered that today was the first day for Pumpkin Cheesecake to come out. He bought me a whole pumpkin cheesecake. They are good for six months in the freezer. Below I am holding my cheesecake and my new Kindle!

I called one of my students out privately for saying a comment about someone being fat (not in our class). I had his sister last year (she was in my wedding), and she is a bit heavy so I certainly wanted to drive home the point that you don't make fun of people's weight. Haley overhears my conversation (I told this student that I used to be overweight, and didn't like to hear comments like that). Haley asks me about it. I showed her a picture (this all took place during lunch in our classroom), and she was trying to be so thoughtful, paused, and said, "You were pretty big there." Prior to showing her the picture, she said there was no way that I could have weighed over 300 pounds. I just chuckled inside my head.
The morning brings the dentist and the doctor, trying to squeeze in visits on days when teachers are off. I'm sure they will be full of my fellow co-workers too.
